"The Hunger Games," expected to be one of this year's biggest movies, had their world premiere in Los Angeles on Monday. Hundreds and hundreds of fans were present, hours before the stars of the film even arrived.
LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The film is based on author Suzanne Collins' best-selling book of the same title. Featuring upcoming actors and actresses Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Kalia Prescott, Jack Quaid, and Isabelle Fuhrman, the movie is about a teen's struggle for survival in a government controlled world in which annual televised games are hosted for the public where the participants are forced to kill each other.
Actress Elizabeth Banks, who plays the character Effie Trinket in "The Hunger Games," said, "The passion of these fans is unlike anything I have ever been involved with. For me the biggest star here is Suzanne Collins, who wrote the books and is the creator of this entire universe, all this pandemonium."
The movie opens in theatres on March 23, and has the potential to bring in more than $100 million in ticket sales during its opening weekend.
