California residents from Sacramento down to the greater Los Angeles area got to see a marvel of modern engineering, for the last time ever. Space Shuttle Endeavour has completed her California ferryflight.
LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - The shuttle touched down just before 1 p.m. at LAX. The flight that brought Endeavour to LA was a long, circuitous route, departing Edwards AFB around 8:15 a.m.
From there the shuttle passed over the desert communities before crossing the Sierras towards Bakersfield and other San Joaquin Valley towns. Once arriving in Sacramento, the 747 and shuttle pair made passes over the state capitol and other area landmarks.
This was repeated in San Francisco where the duo made picture perfect passes over the Golden gate bridge and later the Hollywood sign.
Now, Endeavour will rest at a United Airlines hangar at LAX until October 12 when she will begin a two-day procession down city streets to a permanent home at the California Science Museum.
At that time, Endeavour will begin her most important mission, inspiring thousands of area children to reach for the stars.
GODSPEED ENDEAVOUR on your final mission!
