Sheriff Baca has been under fire recently for jail conditions.
New reforms are coming to LA county jails after Sheriff Lee Baca agreed to a list of proposed reforms. Chief on the list would be an independent, civilian inspection agency.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Inmates have been complaining of excessive force and brutality from deputies. Others have criticized Baca for not paying attention to jail conditions.

While Baca has denied these allegations, he has said that he supports improvements.

It should be noted that jails with poor conditions are also more dangerous to both inmates and staff and cost more to operate over the long-term.

Baca did announce that the department is conducting its own investigation into conditions at the jail and to see if Undersheriff Paul Tanaka is responsible for some of the alleged deterioration in the county facilities.

It is hoped that the proposed reforms, if adopted, will help ensure the jails work more efficiently and humanely.
